The Homeland of the Werner Brothers

History

After the critical and public success of The Journey of Marcel Grob, Philippe Collin and Sébastien Goethals return with a new historical narrative about a forgotten, yet strikingly close era: that of a Europe torn by ideologies, a Europe of the Cold War. May 1945. In the ruins of Berlin, two Jewish orphans watch in fear as the Soviets claim victory. Taking refuge in Leipzig, Konrad and Andreas Werner become East German citizens. It is the march of history. June 1956. The two brothers join the ranks of the Stasi to avoid being sent to a reeducation camp. They will become sons of the East. June 1974. During the 10th FIFA World Cup, a historic match pits West Germany (FRG) against East Germany (GDR). It’s the Cold War match. The impact is global. To ensure victory for the GDR, Erich Honecker decides to involve the best Stasi agents. The goal: to prove the superiority of the socialist regime over the capitalist world. Konrad Werner has been infiltrating the West German team for months. Andreas Werner is part of the GDR delegation. It’s been twelve years since they last saw each other. The clash of the two blocs will shake their convictions.
