Pizzica Pizzica

Slice of LifeRomance

Apolline is a young choreographer. While in Brittany with a theater troupe, she meets Erwan — a young man as handsome as Romeo. When he invites her on a sailing trip, she accepts, despite her friends’ warnings: “But you barely know him!”. The trip turns into an ordeal: a storm, raging seas, nausea that twists Apolline with pain and fear… When calm finally returns, she is exhausted—but Erwan insists they make love. She gives in, spellbound. It’s the beginning of an intense and paradoxical journey, leading them to Naples, then to Puglia, in southern Italy. Little by little, Apolline feels increasingly swept up in a sensual and passionate whirlwind—one she may never have truly controlled… A whirlwind that will culminate in the explosive trance of the pizzica! Pizzica is a form of tarantella. Originating in Puglia, Italy, it was once part of therapeutic rituals known as tarantism, used to treat supposed spider bites. Today, it lives on as a vibrant and popular folk dance.
