"Samuel de Champlain, sent by the King of France, is tasked with pacifying the banks of the Saint Lawrence in order to develop the fur trade with the various tribes, regularly threatened by Iroquois raids. Assisted by around forty men and his Huron and Montagnais allies, he ventures into Iroquois territory, guided by “Le Basque,” a vengeance-driven trader who knows these lands better than anyone. In addition to his alliance with the Huron and Algonquin tribes, Champlain holds another asset: a hostage, “Petite Loutre,” daughter of an Iroquois chief, who may serve as a bargaining chip…
